Walker Tracker is a digital wellness platform allowing businesses to run engaging step-counting challenges and other healthy activities for their employees.
Fixing the Android app’s poor ratings and negative reviews was only the beginning of our journey. Since 2019, we have been diligently working on the iOS and Android apps, as well as the web platform for managing the activities in the app.

Before proposing any enhancements, our team had
scrutinized the entire app, trying to explain poor ratings:
- step tracking sync issues
- loose step counting
- random interface glitches
We then tried to reason out the pile of negative reviews:
- only 1% of customers reviewed the app
- people confused reviews with customer support

Strategy for Boosting App Rating
The app teardown proved we had to secure more 5-star reviews and funnel out feature requests and bug reports from Google Play.
We added a prompt to send high scores and positive reviews from the app to Google Play and less favorable feedback to support.
As is often the case with software, the sizeable chunk of work remained behind the scenes:
- added rules for triggering the prompt
- built the prompt & private feedback form
- set up email notifications for customer support
- integrated the Google Play’s in-app review API

Besides introducing the Rate Us prompt, we rehashed Walker Tracker's design, removed pesky bugs, and upgraded the app with engaging features:
- Added a customer support section
- Fixed data sync issues
- Updated code to the modern OS patterns
- Included wellness tips
- Added an option to create challenges in the app
To help the company drive wellness initiatives among a wider audience, we worked on the accessibility features. That opened up the platform to people with poor eyesight.

Using agile, we gradually implemented improvement ideas through scheduled app upgrades for iOS and Android.
